About The Motor Signal
An independent publication for drivers who want a straight answer when a light comes on.
The Motor Signal began with a simple frustration. Dashboard warning lights are designed to grab your attention, yet almost nobody knows what they actually mean. Owner manuals are buried in glove boxes, and most of what you find online is either a wall of ads or a vague paragraph that leaves you no wiser. We set out to do it properly.
We are a small, independent magazine focused on one thing: making the symbols on your dashboard make sense. Every guide is researched against manufacturer service information and written by people who have spent real time around cars, trucks, and the machinery that throws cryptic icons at its driver.
How we work
We organize warning lights the way your car prioritizes them: by color. Red is urgent and usually means stop. Amber means attention is needed soon. Green and blue are simply telling you a system is active. That framework runs through everything we publish, so you can judge severity at a glance before reading a word of detail.
We are honest about what a light can and cannot tell you. A symbol is a clue, not a verdict. Confirming the fault behind it still means scanning the car and inspecting it in person. When a guide says a light can mean something serious, we say so plainly rather than reassuring you for the sake of it.
Independent and ad-supported
The Motor Signal is free to read and supported by advertising. We are not a dealership, a parts retailer, or a repair chain, and no manufacturer pays for coverage. Our only job is to explain what the light means.
